This section of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland (NHS QIS) site explains how to use this site in order to find the information you are looking for.

Our Visitors

The NHS QIS website has two types of visitor: healthcare professionals and members of the public. Both types of visitor have been catered for in the following ways:

Healthcare Professionals

The Publications QuickFind drop-down menu (situated on the Home Page of the site and on the Home Page of the section Our Findings and Advice) allows healthcare professionals to quickly access the kind of publication that they are looking for with the least amount of clicks and consideration of the site s navigation. Moreover, for those looking for information relating to a healthcare subject area, the section Our Findings and Advice has been broken down into topics that list information relating to any number of different publications.

Similarly, the Projects QuickFind (situated on the Home Page of the Our Projects section) allows speedy access to information relating to the writing of a kind of publication (eg Standards, Health Technology Assessment, Best Practice Statement).

Members of the Public

Many members of the public visiting our site may not be aware that all our healthcare findings and advice are ultimately contained within publications. For this reason, we have structured a list of topics that relate to our work this list can be found on the Home Page of Our Findings and Advice.

Also, we have provided a page that defines the types of publications that we produce and provided links to this page where applicable this will make it easier for members of the public to understand the information they are accessing.

Cross-Referencing

This website contains a vast amount of information, mostly contained within publications. The site has been designed to attempt to anticipate how users would look for that information. For this reason, cross-referencing - or, finding pieces of information via different routes - is very important.

'Related Content boxes exist on the majority of pages on the site these boxes point the site visitor to other pages on the site that might be of interest to the visitor and that relate to that particular topic, project or type of publication.

The majority of information contained within the list of Topics in 'Our Findings and Advice' is also available through the Publications QuickFind drop-down menu. However, the drop-down menu lists those kinds of publications which we currently produce, not the kinds of publications produced by our predecessor organisations that we no longer produce (eg Good Practice Statements) - such publications can be found via the site's search engine or through selecting the appropriate Topic.
